Mohamed Salah has declared his ambition to win the Ballon d’Or following a standout campaign that saw him named the Football Writers’ Association’s Player of the Year.
The Egyptian forward netted 28 goals in the Premier League, playing a pivotal role in securing Liverpool’s domestic triumph.
Speaking after receiving the accolade, Salah reflected on the personal and national significance of the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
“It would mean a great deal not just to me, but to the people of Egypt as well,” he said. “I’ve delivered my best throughout the season. If I’m rewarded with the Ballon d’Or, that’s fantastic. If not, it’s beyond my control.”
Salah’s performances this season have brought him to the brink of equaling a long-standing Premier League record.
He is just one contribution away, either a goal or an assist, from matching the 47 goal involvements tallied by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole in a single campaign.
With Liverpool set to face Crystal Palace in the final match of the season, all eyes will be on the 31-year-old to see if he can surpass this historic benchmark.
He pointed out that his statistical success is all the more meaningful given the club’s achievements. “When your numbers help bring silverware to your club, it gives everything more weight,” he noted. “Being a key part of a title-winning side makes those goals and assists even more satisfying.”
In addition to his exploits on the pitch, Salah recently committed his future to Liverpool by signing a two-year contract extension. The decision reflects his strong belief in the club’s direction and his personal desire to thrive in a new era under manager Jürgen Klopp’s successor.
“I’ve had a remarkable journey at Liverpool. Every moment has been special,” Salah remarked. “Now, I’m eager to continue writing my story with a different squad, under a new coach.
I want to prove that I can still deliver at the highest level, even as the team evolves.”
The forward emphasized that his success has always been built on collective effort. “Football is never about just one player,” he said. “I’ve always valued the contributions of my teammates and the staff around me.
The achievements this season are the result of hard work and unity.”
Salah’s consistency since joining Liverpool in 2017 has cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s most prolific attackers.
His latest season has only strengthened his case for global recognition, with many supporters and pundits alike now considering him a leading contender for the Ballon d’Or.
As the season concludes, Salah remains focused but grounded. While individual awards remain out of his hands, his commitment to excellence on the pitch continues to define his approach.
“I’ll always aim to give my all,” he said. “What comes from that is not up to me, but I know I’ve done everything I can.”
