Egypt superstar and captain Mohamed Salah has acknowledged the importance of playing for the national team after leaving England to join camp ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Liverpool marksman left for the Pharaohs camping after inspiring the club’s 4-2 victory over Newcastle United on Monday as the Reds continue to lead the Premiership table.

Having missed a penalty kick in the first half, Salah went ahead to score twice and delivered an assist to ensure he switched from Liverpool for Egypt camp on a higher note.

Salah had this to say after the Premier League match on Monday.

“It means a lot to play in the national team. You can ask Carragher. You can ask anyone.

The 31-year-old also revealed his desire to go all the way to win the ultimate prize at the end of the AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, starting on January 13.

“To play in the national team with the jersey is not something to take for granted. I would love to win the AFCON.”

Salah has been sensational for Liverpool this season in the Premier League, scoring 14 times and delivering 8 assists in 20 matches.

He is expected to play a crucial role for the Pharaohs, who aspire to clinch the AFCON title for a record extending eighth time.
