Mohamed Salah dip and slow start behind Liverpool struggles – Ronny
Former Liverpool forward Ronny Rosenthal believes a combination of misfortune and a dip in form from Mohamed Salah has contributed to the club’s disappointing 2025/26 campaign.
Rosenthal, who remains a respected figure among supporters, shared his assessment during an interview with Flashscore, offering insight into the factors behind Liverpool’s struggles compared to their previous season.
The Israeli, affectionately known as ‘Rocket’, pointed to a lack of momentum early in the campaign as a key issue.
“I think that it’s a mixture of being a bit unlucky, and also Salah, for example, who has been vital for them, fading a little bit. If you start the season negatively, too, that can continue.
“I don’t think that they’ve become bad overnight, either. They should be dominating, yes, but I’m sure that they will bounce back and they will be stronger.”
Despite the downturn, Rosenthal dismissed suggestions that Liverpool’s problems stem from a fundamental decline in quality. Instead, he emphasised the cyclical nature of football form and backed the club to recover.
Liverpool have endured an inconsistent season marked by underwhelming results, raising questions about their ability to compete at the highest level domestically and in Europe.
However, Rosenthal’s comments suggest the issues may be temporary rather than structural.
Salah, widely regarded as one of the club’s most influential players in recent history, has been central to Liverpool’s attacking identity for years. Any drop in his output inevitably has a significant impact on the team’s overall performance.
Still, Rosenthal remains optimistic that Liverpool possess the tools to rebound. He stressed that elite teams rarely lose their competitive edge overnight and believes the club’s foundations remain intact.
