Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah criticised his teammates for their sloppy performance after their comeback win against Southampton on Saturday.
Will Smallbone gave the away side a surprise lead in first-half injury time to end the first half 1-0.
However, second-half goals from Darwin Nunez and Salah put Arne Slot’s men ahead before the hour mark.
Salah grabbed a late second – both goals were penalties – to make the game safe, and Liverpool extended their lead before Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the win, Salah told Premier League Productions: “Southampton had a good game plan.”
The Egypt international was asked what manager Slot said to them at half-time, with the Dutchman permitted to visit the dressing room despite a touchline ban.
He said: “It was a bit of frustration. His head was going for us. We were sloppy and slow in the first half. I don’t think we played good today.”
Salah warned his teammates, adding, “If you want to win the Champions League or Premier League, you have to win these games like that.”
The Egyptian also reached 44 goal involvements this term (27 goals, 17 assists), the joint-most ever recorded by a player in a 38-game Premier League campaign.
With confidence high, Salah will aim to continue his remarkable form when Liverpool face PSG in the second leg of their Champions League clash at Anfield on Tuesday.
