Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has admitted his understanding with new teammate Hugo Ekitike is still developing but believes their partnership will soon click as they continue to work together on and off the pitch.

Speaking on the popular YouTube channel Men in Blazers, Salah offered an honest assessment of his on-field chemistry with the French striker, who joined Liverpool this summer.

The Egyptian forward explained that, while he has yet to establish the same intuitive connection he shares with long-time attacking partners Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Diogo Jota, he is confident that time and training will bring improvement.

“For now, I haven’t found all the connections like I did with Darwin, Luis, or Diogo,” Salah said. “With them, I knew exactly where to find them on the pitch. With Hugo, it’s still new.”

Salah stressed that adapting to a new strike partner is a natural process, noting that different styles of play require adjustments.

“Sometimes I need the ball at my feet, and sometimes we look for runs in behind,” he explained. “It’s about learning each other’s movements and tendencies.”

The 32-year-old added that he and Ekitike are already working hard to build their understanding during training sessions, with Liverpool’s coaching staff actively supporting their development.

“We try to create this understanding in training, with the help of the videos the coach shows us,” Salah said. “I’ll understand it soon, and it will also help me improve.”

Ekitike, who arrived at Anfield with high expectations, has already demonstrated his potential by scoring twice in the Premier League despite still settling into Jürgen Klopp’s system.

However, Salah’s comments reflect the reality of adapting to new teammates, especially in Liverpool’s fluid attacking style, where chemistry and instinctive play have long been central to their success.

Liverpool’s attack is undergoing significant evolution following a busy transfer window. The signing of Swedish forward Alexander Isak has added further competition for places, with Klopp expected to rotate his attacking options throughout the campaign.

The arrival of two new strikers has also brought tactical adjustments, forcing Salah, a key figure in Liverpool’s front line for nearly a decade, to adapt once again.

Ekitike’s early performances have been promising, but Salah’s candid remarks suggest both players recognise there is more work to be done to reach the level of fluency he previously enjoyed with established teammates.

Still, Salah’s track record of forming strong partnerships — from his legendary link-up with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané to his current understanding with Núñez — provides optimism that he and Ekitike will quickly develop a similar connection.

As Liverpool balance Premier League and European ambitions this season, Salah’s leadership and experience will be crucial in integrating Ekitike and Isak into the squad.

The Egyptian remains confident that building these relationships is only a matter of time and repetition, predicting that his partnership with Ekitike will soon deliver results for the team.
