Mohamed Salah begins Turkish adventure with Trabzonspor after Liverpool exit

Mohamed Salah has continued his career in Turkey by joining Trabzonspor on a two-year contract, ending a highly successful nine-season spell at Liverpool. The Egypt international had been close to signing for Besiktas, as reported exclusively by Africafoot, but ultimately chose Trabzonspor instead.

Trabzonspor confirmed the arrival of the 34-year-old forward on its social media channels. Salah joins the club as a free agent after leaving England, where he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances for Liverpool.

His time at Anfield brought some of the biggest honours in European football. Salah played a key part in Liverpool’s Champions League success and also won the English top-flight title twice during his nine seasons with the club.

The move represents a major statement of ambition from Trabzonspor, who have secured one of the most recognisable attacking players in world football. Salah, who captains Egypt’s national team, will now begin a new chapter in the Turkish league after establishing himself as one of Liverpool’s leading players of the modern era.

Salary and commercial terms

Financially, the former Chelsea player is expected to receive a fixed salary of €17m per season. His agreement will also include performance-related bonuses, as well as a 20% share of sales from merchandise carrying his name.

According to information reported by The Sun, Salah’s combined income could exceed €423,000 per week. That figure is further supported by Turkey’s favourable tax system, under which clubs cover a significant proportion of their players’ tax obligations.

During his time at Liverpool, Salah was reportedly paid €20,817,548 per year, equivalent to 13,531,406,200 CFA francs. His current market value is estimated at €22m.

The terms of the Trabzonspor deal therefore give Salah a substantial financial package while allowing the Turkish club to add an experienced international forward to its squad. His arrival also follows an extended period in which he was linked with a move to Besiktas before the transfer was finalised by Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor prepare for league opener

Salah’s new club will soon play its opening fixture of the Turkish league season against Kasımpasa. The match will provide the first opportunity for Trabzonspor supporters to see whether their high-profile signing is involved at the start of his time in Turkey.

The betting company 1xBet has listed Trabzonspor as favourites for the fixture. Its published odds make a Trabzonspor victory 1.76, while a draw is priced at 3.70 and a Kasımpasa win at 3.80.

Salah arrives in Turkey with a sizeable reputation built during his Liverpool career, including more than 250 goals for the Reds, a Champions League winner’s medal and two English league titles. His two-year commitment to Trabzonspor now gives the club an established goalscorer and Egypt’s captain as it begins its domestic campaign.
