Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has revealed that Mohamed Salah always dreamed of playing for Liverpool, even before he became a global star.
Richards, who played alongside Salah at Fiorentina in 2015, praised the Egyptian forward for his consistency and ability to punish opponents.
“Salah, we talk about him so many times – he’s breathtaking,” Richards said. “When I say he’s breathtaking, it’s not because he has a great game all the time, but he scores, he’s clinical, and he punishes you all the time.”
The Egyptian has 32 goals and 22 assists in all competitions this season from 41 games.
Reflecting on their time together in Italy, Richards added: “I remember when I was at Fiorentina with him, he always said his dream was to play for Liverpool, and he’s living out his dream now and doing amazingly well.”
Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017, has since become one of the club’s greatest players, winning multiple trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.
In a 2023 interview with Sky Sports, Salah spoke fondly of his friendship with Richards, calling him one of the “craziest” people he had ever met.
“Oh my God, one of the craziest guys I’ve ever met,” Salah said. “As a person, it’s hard to describe because we were very close, and he’s really such a nice guy. My family were in London, and he was alone, so we would always go for coffee. I didn’t have a car, so he picked me up before and after training to drop me home.”
Salah also joked about Richards’ language skills. “He pretended his Italian was better, but everybody knows it was not! But he’s such a great guy, and we stayed in touch.”
