Mohamed Nassoh’s red card ends season early for NAC Breda midfielder
Mohamed Nassoh will play no further part this season after being handed a suspension following his dismissal during NAC Breda’s away match against FC Utrecht.
The Moroccan midfielder was initially shown a yellow card for a challenge on compatriot Souffian El Karouani, but the decision was upgraded to a red card after a VAR review conducted by referee Alex Bos.
The incident, which involved contact with the opponent’s ankle, ultimately proved costly for Nassoh.
Following the match, the professional football authorities proposed a three-game suspension, with one match suspended. NAC Breda accepted the sanction, as reported by Voetbal International, confirming that the player will miss the remainder of the Eredivisie campaign.
With only two league fixtures left to play — against SC Heerenveen and AZ Alkmaar — the suspension effectively ends Nassoh’s domestic season.
His absence comes at a critical stage for NAC Breda, who are battling to avoid relegation.
The club’s situation in the standings leaves them with little margin for error. To keep their hopes alive, NAC must secure victories in their remaining matches while also relying on favourable results elsewhere.
Teams such as FC Volendam and Telstar would need to drop points for NAC to have a realistic chance of reaching the relegation play-offs.
As it stands, the likelihood of such a scenario remains uncertain, placing additional pressure on the squad in the closing phase of the season.
Nassoh’s suspension further complicates matters, depriving the team of a midfield option at a decisive moment.
Unless an unlikely turnaround occurs in the standings, the 21-year-old’s campaign has effectively come to an early end.
His next appearance will now depend on NAC Breda’s fate as the club fights to preserve its top-flight status.
