The father of Mohamed Hamdy, the left-back for the Egyptian national team, expressed his sadness after the team’s defeat against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt bid farewell to the Africa Cup of Nations after a penalty shootout loss to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, concluding 8-7, following a 1-1 draw in both regular and extra time.
In a television statement to “ON Time Sports,” Mohamed Hamdy’s father said, “The players exerted a tremendous effort in the match against the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but luck was not on their side.”
He added, “The players were affected by the high temperatures.”
He explained, “Mohamed spoke to me over the phone an hour and a half before the match and confirmed to me that he was suffering from a strain and would not participate in the game.
It was possible for him to play in the second half,” adding, “Egypt’s exit from the tournament is extremely saddening.”
