Former Egyptian national team goalkeeper coach Ahmed Suleiman has expressed his belief that Mohamed El-Shennawy, the goalkeeper for the Egyptian national team, bears a significant responsibility for Mozambique’s first goal in the match against Egypt.
The Egyptian national team faced Mozambique, resulting in a 2-2 draw in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations held last Sunday.
During an interview on the program “Al-Laeeb” broadcast on MBC Masr, Ahmed Suleiman stated, “Mohamed El-Shennawy bears 50% responsibility for Mozambique’s first goal.
He was supposed to block the ball with his opposite hand, providing a greater distance to effectively deflect the shot.”
Regarding the second goal, Suleiman remarked, “El-Shennawy cannot be held accountable for the second goal.
He faced a clear one-on-one situation and could have waited in the goal, but he decided to come out early to confront Mozambique’s striker.”
In the upcoming match, Egypt is set to face Ghana on Thursday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium as part of the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations.
