Mohamed El Shenawy returns for Al Ahly in win over Misr Lel Makkasa

Mohamed El Shenawy played in Al Ahly’s friendly victory over Misr Lel Makkasa on Friday, strengthening his readiness for the Egyptian Premier League derby against Zamalek.

Al Ahly won 3-0 in a match arranged as part of both sides’ preparations for their upcoming fixtures. Aqtay Abdullah, Achraf Bencharki and Hussein El Shahat scored for the Egyptian champions.

El Shenawy came on in the second half after returning to team training last Thursday. The goalkeeper had been recovering from an injury but has now been declared ready to feature in the derby.

The goalkeeper’s appearance will be welcomed by Al Ahly ahead of their meeting with Zamalek on 11 October, when the two sides face each other in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Al Ahly previously announced that El Shenawy had extended his contract with the club until 2028.

The club’s next competitive fixture will be against Asyut Petroleum in the opening round of the Egypt Capital Cup group stage on Wednesday, 7 October.

Al Ahly have been drawn in Group C alongside El Sharkia, ENPPI, El Gouna, Asyut Petroleum and Arab Contractors.

They are currently third in the Egyptian Premier League table with 13 points, level with second-placed Zamalek.
