Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy has set the tone for Saturday’s crucial Champions League semi-final first leg against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, declaring that the Egyptian giants are ready to rise to the occasion.
With years of experience under his belt, El-Shenawy spoke with calm assurance during the pre-match press conference, noting that he’s no stranger to playing in South Africa.
“The players are well prepared for the game, which will be difficult against a strong opponent. We are focused on giving our best performance tomorrow to achieve a positive result.”
He underlined the team’s hunger for glory, as they aim for a historic third consecutive CAF Champions League title.
“The players have a strong desire to make history and win the title for the third time in a row. We have studied Sundowns well and we are very focused on the game.”
Despite Sundowns’ growth and talent, El-Shenawy believes Al Ahly’s legacy speaks for itself.
“But Al Ahly is the biggest team, constantly competing, seeking the sixth final and the third consecutive title in the Champions League.”
