Nice defender Mohamed Abdelmonem’s evening ended in heartbreak during Friday’s Ligue 1 clash with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at Parc des Princes.
In the 65th minute, while chasing PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz, Abdelmonem collapsed to the ground, clutching his left knee in visible pain. The injury forced Nice coach Franck Eze to make an early substitution. Abdelmonem, clearly distressed, was seen leaving the pitch in tears, unable to continue.
The injury came at a pivotal moment, with Nice leading 2-1. Antoine Mendy replaced Abdelmonem in the 69th minute as the team hoped to hold onto their advantage.
Abdelmonem, who joined Nice from Al Ahly for €5 million earlier this season, had been making rare appearances, filling in for the injured Brazilian captain, Dante. This setback is a cruel blow for the Egyptian, whose time at the French club has already been marked by injury disruptions.
Fans will now be anxiously awaiting updates on the severity of his knee issue.
