Egyptian left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, commonly known as Chifo, of the Zamalek Football Club, will miss the upcoming Egyptian Cup match scheduled for March 8th at Al-Oula Park in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, as announced by the Cairo-based club on Sunday.
Zamalek stated through its media center, “Mohamed Osama, head of the medical staff, revealed that Mohamed Abdel-Shafi has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury following medical examinations conducted recently.”
The head of the medical staff confirmed that the player underwent intensive medical tests to determine the extent of the injury and the appropriate treatment method.
Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, known as “Chifo,” will travel to Germany in the coming days to have his condition assessed by a specialist and undergo surgery based on a decision by club president Hussein Labib.
Zamalek is facing challenges in the left-back position after Ahmed Fatouh sustained a hamstring injury while representing Egypt in the recent Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast, alongside the departure of Abdullah Gomaa to Baladiyat Al-Mahalla Club.
Furthermore, Zamalek also announced on February 6th that defender Mahmoud Hamdy “El Wensh” has suffered a partial ACL tear.
The absence of Mohamed Abdel-Shafi due to his injury poses a significant setback for Zamalek as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures, highlighting the importance of maintaining a robust squad depth to cope with such setbacks.
