Mohamed Abdel-Monsef, the former goalkeeper coach of Zamalek, revealed that he took on the role during a challenging period for the team and inherited a squad that was not in its best shape.
Abdel-Monsef clarified, “Let’s talk about the numbers. In the last four matches, we can see Zamalek’s situation with the defeats and goals conceded.
Since I took over as the goalkeeping coach, I haven’t had the chance to work with goalkeepers Mohamed Awad and Mohamed Sobhi consistently.
Awad was injured once, and Sobhi was suspended another time.”
In televised statements, Mohamed Abdel-Monsef further explained that he promoted young players amid technical and administrative instability, registration freezes, delayed payments, and the departure of coach Juan Carlos Osorio, with Motamed Gamal replacing him to bring stability to the team.
Abdel-Monsef concluded, “Everyone witnessed Mohamed Awad’s performance in the Dubai tournament, indicating that our efforts with the goalkeepers were beginning to yield results.
What happened to me also happened to Captain Motamed Gamal.
Social media is the one controlling matters within Zamalek due to its constant demands for my departure.”
