Modern Sport booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Egyptian Capital Cup after a gritty goalless draw against El Gouna at Khaled Bishara Stadium on Wednesday.
The match, which closed out Group A action, ended 0-0, but it was enough to push Modern Sport through to the next stage on goal difference.
The Red Sea clash saw few clear chances, with both sides struggling to create momentum. Still, the result favored Modern Sport, who, under the guidance of Algerian head coach Abdelhak Ben Sheikha, edged past Zamalek and El Gouna despite all three finishing with five points.
Thanks to a slightly better goal tally, Modern Sport advanced as Group A’s runners-up behind Petrojet, who had already sealed the top spot before this round.
In the next stage, Modern Sport will lock horns with Group B winners Al Ahly Bank, while Petrojet are set to take on Group B runners-up Ceramica Cleopatra.
