Modern Sport has pushed back strongly after explosive accusations from ex-goalkeeper Mahmoud Abdel Rahim, who recently moved to Al-Ittihad Alexandria.
In a detailed statement, the club defended itself against Genesh’s Instagram post accusing the management of financial misconduct and moral failure.
The club explained that Mahmoud Abdel Rahim, still under contract until the end of the 2024–25 season, was subject to team rules. It revealed that on January 12, management legally approved a 10% pay cut for all first-team players and froze payments to motivate better results. A follow-up directive on January 27 added a 25% pay cut clause if the team fails to finish in the league’s top ten, officially filed with the Egyptian Football Association.
Modern Sport also accused Rahim of disturbing the dressing room atmosphere and underperforming during key games, undermining his leadership role. The final straw, the club said, came when the goalkeeper posted a photo in a yellow shirt before a critical match, calling it unsportsmanlike and unprofessional.
The club concluded that legal action is underway to counter what it calls baseless claims.
