Modern Sport beat Ghazl El Mahalla to claim first home win of Egyptian Premier League season
Modern Sport claimed their first victory of the Egyptian Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Ghazl El Mahalla in the second round of fixtures.
Ahmed Mostafa and Mahmoud Mamdouh scored the goals as Modern Sport secured their first home league victory, having begun the season with a 1-1 draw against El Gouna.
The result leaves Ghazl El Mahalla with back-to-back defeats. They were beaten by Pyramids in the opening round and were unable to respond against Modern Sport, who struck twice in the closing stages.
Modern Sport had to wait until the 78th minute to break the deadlock. Arnold Eba produced an individual counter-attacking run before finding Ahmed Mostafa, whose initial effort was saved by the Ghazl El Mahalla goalkeeper.
The ball fell to Mahmoud Mamdouh, who delivered a cross from the right. Mostafa met it and fired into the net to put the home side in front.
Modern Sport doubled their advantage eight minutes later. Mamdouh carried the ball forward with a solo run into the penalty area, moved through on goal and finished with a low shot that found the Ghazl El Mahalla net.
The victory gives Modern Sport their first three points of the league season after their opening draw, while Ghazl El Mahalla remain without a win and have now lost their first two matches.
Modern Sport will look to build on the result when they face Ceramica Cleopatra in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League next Wednesday.
Ghazl El Mahalla will attempt to end their losing run when they take on El Sharqia and ENPPI next Tuesday in the third round of the competition.
