Modern Future FC’s president, Walid Deabes, reflected on his team’s recent qualification for the Confederation Cup quarter-finals and took the opportunity to address concerns about the scheduling challenges faced by clubs participating in both local and continental competitions. The president’s remarks, aired on a local radio channel, highlighted the disparities in scheduling between clubs engaged in domestic leagues and those competing on the continental stage.
Deabes emphasized the need for a nuanced approach, suggesting that clubs involved exclusively in local competitions should not be subjected to the same tight schedules as their counterparts in continental tournaments.
He argued, “The issue of having three days between local and African matches should not apply to all clubs, especially as some teams travel by private planes. There must be different thinking on the part of the Competitions Commission in the organization of matches.”
During the radio broadcast, Deabes also voiced his frustration with unsuccessful attempts to engage with members of the Algerian Football Federation on the matter.
“I call the heads of the Association of Clubs, and Amer Hussein, who does not respond to our calls, and whether he is at the federation or the association, he works for the interests of the clubs.
He doesn’t manage. This does not apply to everyone,” he remarked, shedding light on the challenges faced by Modern FC in their interactions with football authorities.
Modern FC secured their spot in the quarter-finals with a resounding 5-0 victory over Al Hilal Benghazi. Despite facing a demanding schedule, with a continental fixture in South Africa on February 25 followed by a domestic league match before their continental clash on Sunday, the team demonstrated resilience and achieved a convincing result.
As Modern FC advances in the CAF Cup, Deabes’ call for a reevaluation of scheduling policies brings attention to the intricate dynamics faced by clubs juggling multiple competitions.
