Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls were eliminated from the MLS (Major League Soccer) playoffs by DC United with a 1-0 defeat. The Red Bulls had an opportunity to score when Kenny Cooper took a penalty in the 73rd minute, but the goal was disallowed as three Red Bulls players had entered the penalty area before the kick. The second attempt was also unsuccessful as goalkeeper Joe Willis saved Cooper’s shot. DC United’s Nick DeLeon scored the only goal of the match, and the Red Bulls played with 10 players after the expulsion of Rafael Marquez. This defeat meant that Henry, with 15 goals and 12 assists in 25 games, would not participate in the final. Washington would face Houston in the Eastern Conference final, while the Los Angeles Galaxy would meet Seattle in the Western Conference final.
