Missing article: what is the story about?

Monaco are monitoring teenage left-back Mamady Mara as the Horoya AC defender emerges as a possible future transfer target.

The 17-year-old Guinean, who plays primarily at left-back and is left-footed, has been linked with a move from Guinean champions Horoya AC to the Ligue 1 side, according to the latest transfer listings dated 2 March 2026. The probability of any move is currently listed only as “?”, underlining that talks are at an early, speculative stage.

Mara has risen quickly through the ranks in Conakry, stepping up from Horoya AC U19 to the first team on 1 July 2023. Born on 8 March 2008 in Kountiah, he has yet to register an official market value on Transfermarkt, with his valuation recorded as “None”, a fact that may encourage European clubs to explore a low-cost deal or to track him closely before firm bids are made.

Horoya have used Mara mainly as a defensive option on the left side, and he has begun to feature more regularly in the 2025‑26 campaign. In a recent domestic fixture against long‑time rivals Hafia FC in early February 2026, Horoya drew 1-1, with Mara starting at left-back and completing the 90 minutes in a disciplined display as his side conceded only from a late set-piece. That full outing has helped reinforce the perception of him as a composed, defensively-minded full-back still at the very beginning of his development.

With no public information on his contract length or expiry at Horoya AC, it is unclear when he could become a free agent or whether any transfer would require a formal fee. For now, Monaco’s interest remains only a reported watch rather than an active negotiation, but if the Ligue 1 club do move, a switch to Europe at 17 would represent a pivotal step in shaping Mara’s career trajectory and his potential reputation as one of Guinea’s next notable exports.
