Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has lauded Nicolas Jackson for his remarkable improvement this season, acknowledging that the young striker has silenced earlier criticisms with his performances.

The 22-year-old Senegalese forward, who endured a challenging debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, has found his footing in his second season, netting eight Premier League goals and providing three assists.

Jackson’s resurgence has cemented his place as a vital player in Chelsea’s attacking setup.

Earlier this season, Mikel had voiced concerns about Jackson’s finishing abilities, pointing to the striker’s tendency to squander chances.

I know I talk so much about him that sometimes it sounds like I disrespect him.

I don’t disrespect him. I just think that, at Chelsea Football Club, we need a top striker who can get us goals,” Mikel said at the time.

Jackson, however, responded defiantly to the criticism.

In a bold Instagram post, the former Villarreal player challenged Mikel, telling him to “shut his mouth.

The response sparked a wave of attention, with fans eagerly watching to see if Jackson could back up his words on the pitch.

The forward’s response has been emphatic.

With improved composure and precision in front of goal, Jackson has silenced his critics, including Mikel himself.

Speaking via Reuters, Mikel admitted that the young striker had proven him wrong.

He has proved me wrong. He’s playing really well, and it’s just the finishing and the fact that he listened to what I said, Mikel remarked.

The former Nigeria international praised Jackson’s dedication and hard work, suggesting that his transformation is a result of embracing constructive feedback.

I’m happy he took what I said on board.

When he made that statement, I said, ‘Listen, as long as he keeps scoring and we keep winning games, I’ll keep my mouth shut.’ And that’s exactly what he’s done,” Mikel added.

Jackson’s eight goals this season are a testament to his development as a forward, showcasing his ability to lead Chelsea’s attack effectively.

His newfound consistency has played a crucial role in Chelsea’s resurgence and has earned him widespread recognition.

The striker’s turnaround is a reflection of his determination to succeed at the highest level, proving that resilience and self-belief can transform criticism into opportunity.

As Jackson continues to shine, both fans and pundits are taking note of his growing potential as a key figure in Chelsea’s future.
