Mikel Arteta has played down fears over Bukayo Saka’s fitness after the winger was withdrawn from Arsenal’s starting lineup against Leeds United moments before kick-off.
Saka complained of discomfort in the warm-up, prompting the medical staff and coach to take no risks in what is a crucial stage of the season.
“We don’t know yet. He had a little niggle in the warm-up,” Arteta told the BBC when asked about the extent of the issue, indicating that early signs do not point to a serious injury.
Arsenal will continue to assess Saka in the coming days, but the manager’s tone suggested optimism that the problem is minor rather than long term.
In Saka’s absence, Noni Madueke was drafted into the starting XI and seized his opportunity in style, playing a key role in the first two goals of a dominant 4-0 win for the Gunners.
“You have to be thrown out there when you least expect it, and he reacted really well,” Arteta added, praising the winger’s impact.
The result keeps Arsenal’s momentum intact while they await clearer news on one of their star players.
