Former Zamalek coach Ahmed Hossam Mido launched a fierce attack on Ahly winger Ahmed Sayed Zizo, accusing his ex-player of betraying Zamalek, the club he believes made him famous.
Speaking on journalist Abu Al-Maati Zaki’s podcast, Mido revealed behind-the-scenes details of Zizo’s controversial switch from Zamalek to Al Ahly in a blockbuster move after last season.
Mido said: “Zizo is a traitor; he betrayed Zamalek. The club is the one that built his popularity. Was there anyone who knew him before he appeared with Zamalek?” He explained that, while working on Zamalek’s planning committee, he informed officials that Zizo had already signed for Al Ahly and suggested offering the player a final contract, giving him one week to decide, and freezing him if he refused.
According to Mido, Zizo was later frozen after being filmed at the American embassy obtaining a visa to travel with Al Ahly in the summer and participate in the Club World Cup. He added that Zamalek had offered the player 100 million Egyptian pounds per year, stressing that the money was secured, but claimed Zizo’s father created a major problem in the negotiations.
Mido also revealed that Zizo’s father allegedly requested a 29 million pound commission for himself, which Zamalek’s board refused because it had not been part of the original agreement. He insisted he knew Zizo had finalized everything with Al Ahly, but no official from the Red Devils, including Hossam Ghaly, disclosed details to him out of respect for the club’s confidentiality.
In a surprising twist, Mido said Zizo wanted to stay at Zamalek even after signing for Al Ahly, turning to Amr El-Ganainy from the planning committee for help.
“After he finished everything with Al Ahly, he sent a WhatsApp message to Amr El-Ganainy, crying and begging him to get him out of the move to the red club,” Mido added, noting he personally listened to the voice note in which Zizo blamed his father for pushing him into the deal.
