Ahmed Hossam “Mido,” the prominent Egyptian football pundit, offered insights into the significance of hosting the Egyptian Cup final between Al Ahly and Zamalek in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the strong bond between the two brotherly nations.
Speaking on his program “Al-Rimontada” aired on Al-Mehwar TV channel, Mido remarked, “For the first time in history, the Egyptian Cup is being played outside Cairo, but it will be contested on soil cherished by all.”
He added, “For the first time, the illustrious Egyptian Cup ventures beyond Cairo to a place we all respect and hold dear for many reasons.”
Mido emphasized the historical and fraternal relationship between the Egyptian and Saudi people, as well as the political leadership of both countries.
“As Egyptians, we take pride in competing for the oldest tournament on Saudi soil,” he noted, continuing, “What remains is to showcase the strength of Egyptian football on the field and inform the world that despite significant setbacks in the past period, Egyptian football is thriving.”
Highlighting the rich heritage of Egyptian football, Mido underscored the stature of Al Ahly and Zamalek as giants in Arab and African football history.
“Al Ahly and Zamalek have the richest history in Arab and African football, and it is imperative that we demonstrate this to the world,” he emphasized.
The Egyptian Cup final between Al Ahly and Zamalek is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 7:30 PM Cairo time, 8:30 PM Saudi time.
