Michel Dussuyer returns as Guinea national team coach for third stint
Seasoned French coach Michel Dussuyer has returned to the helm of the Guinea national football team, marking his third stint with the West African nation.
Guinea’s Football Federation announced Dussuyer’s appointment as the team’s new head coach, following a turbulent period that saw two coaches come and go in 2024.
Dussuyer previously managed Guinea from 2002 to 2004 and again from 2010 to 2015, leading the team to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-finals in both 2004 and 2015.
With extensive experience in African football, the 65-year-old has coached at six different AFCON tournaments.
His return comes after Guinea’s disappointing start to the 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign, where they lost to both the DR Congo and Tanzania.
Guinea sacked their previous coach, Kaba Diawara, after a World Cup qualifying loss to Mozambique in June, with Charles Paquille temporarily taking over for the first two AFCON qualifying matches.
Dussuyer’s immediate task will be to prepare Guinea for two crucial matches against Ethiopia in October.
His wealth of experience on the continent will be critical as Syli Nationale seeks to turn around their AFCON qualifying campaign.
