Michael Olise admitted he thrived in the chaos of Bayern Munich’s pulsating Champions League quarter-final victory over Real Madrid, a tie that swung wildly before ending in a 4-3 win on the night and 6-4 on aggregate for the German side.

In a match defined by relentless attacking waves and fragile defensive moments, the Bavarians survived a frantic opening spell to book their place in the semi-finals.

The France international of Nigerian descent was at the heart of the spectacle, finding the net and later earning man-of-the-match honours after a performance that blended creativity with composure amid constant pressure from the Spanish giants.

After the final whistle, Olise reflected on a contest that rarely settled into rhythm, praising the intensity while acknowledging Bayern’s ability to respond to setbacks.

The French international highlighted how both sides exchanged blows in rapid succession before the German champions eventually asserted greater control.

He also described his persistence in front of goal, revealing how earlier efforts helped sharpen his execution when it mattered most.

“It was a good, back-and-forth match. We knew they would try to come back. At first it was a bit like ‘goal, goal, goal’. When it eventually calmed down, we played a bit better in the second half and took our chances.

“We showed good resilience to keep coming back. In the end, it was a result we’re happy with. I tried (for my goal) five or six times before and I was getting closer each time. It was nice to score.”

Joshua Kimmich also pointed to the tactical swings that defined the encounter, noting how both sides exploited pressing moments and transition opportunities in a match that began at a frantic pace before settling after the interval.

“We knew that both teams can hurt each other: Bayern with the high pressing, Real Madrid through quick transitions.

“We got off to a bad start, and then conceded again through a free-kick and a counter. The first half was hectic. The second half was calmer; we had more control and then managed to win it in the end.”
