Phil Giles, Brentford’s director of football, has expressed confidence in new signing Michael Kayode, stating that the 20-year-old defender will be a great fit for the club.
Kayode, who was born in Italy but of Nigerian descent, has joined the Bees on loan from Fiorentina, with the option for a permanent move in the summer.
The right-back has been a regular in Fiorentina’s first team this season, making 12 appearances after breaking through during the 2023/24 campaign.
A product of the Juventus youth system, Kayode first garnered attention with impressive performances for Italian fourth-tier side Gozzano, which led to his transfer to Fiorentina in 2021.
Giles, who has closely monitored Kayode’s progress, believes the player’s qualities are well-suited to English football.
“Michael is a player that we think will suit Brentford and the physical nature of the Premier League very well,” said Giles.
“We have watched him for a while, and he has probably been a bit unlucky not to play more games already this season.”
With Brentford sitting mid-table in the Premier League, they’re aiming to finish the season strongly.
