The President of the Moroccan Football Federation (MFF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has reaffirmed his support for national team coach Walid Regragui, dismissing rumours of an imminent sacking.
Despite maintaining an impressive unbeaten run of 12 matches, Regragui has faced criticism following Morocco’s recent friendly victories over Tunisia and Benin—wins that, paradoxically, sparked debate rather than celebration.
Speculation mounted this week after reports suggested the MFF was planning a meeting to discuss the coach’s future. However, sources close to the Federation clarified that the meeting was strictly technical in nature.
According to insiders, the session was convened to review the team’s performance in the two friendlies and present a detailed report to Lekjaa, who also chairs the national team committee.
The discussions also focused on strategic planning for upcoming fixtures, including the September World Cup qualifier against Niger and determining the venue for that crucial match.
“Contrary to what is being circulated, the Football Association has no intention of dismissing Regragui or removing him from his position,” a source within the MFF said.
“Everyone has great confidence in him, as he is the man of the moment and has promised Moroccans in all his conferences that he will bring them the Africa Cup of Nations title.”
With the internal review completed, Morocco will now shift its focus to the next round of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they face Niger and Zambia in September.
