Metta falls short despite Correa’s efforts in Virsliga clash against Riga
FK Metta faced another setback in the Virsliga (Latvian D1) as they succumbed to a 1-2 defeat against Riga FC on Sunday, marking their fifth consecutive match without a victory. Despite a valiant effort from Senegalese winger Mohamet Lamine Correa, Metta failed to secure a positive result against the league leaders.
The match, which unfolded during the 8th day of Virsliga, saw Metta struggle to contain Riga FC’s attacking prowess.
Despite Correa’s contribution, which saw him net his third goal of the season in the 71st minute, Metta ultimately fell short against their formidable opponents.
Correa, a former AS Pikine player, showcased his scoring prowess with a well-taken goal, providing a glimmer of hope for Metta.
However, Riga FC’s early lead, courtesy of Luis Iberico’s goal in the 6th minute, coupled with Taiwo’s strike in the 63rd minute, proved insurmountable for the struggling side.
Metta, led by coach Andris Riherts, find themselves grappling with a string of disappointing results, unable to replicate their earlier successes in the championship.
Despite their best efforts, they remain mired in 8th place in the standings, while Riga FC ascends to the top spot, at least provisionally.
The absence of key players such as Mouhamed El Bachir Ngom and Ousseynou Niang further compounded Metta’s challenges, leaving them vulnerable against a determined Riga FC side.
As the Virsliga season progresses, Metta faces mounting pressure to reverse their fortunes and climb up the table.
With Correa’s continued contributions and a renewed focus on tactical adjustments, they will look to bounce back from this defeat and regain momentum in their quest for success in the Latvian top flight.
