Medi Abalimba, the Congolese man who posed as a footballer to date and con high-profile targets, has been re-arrested and sent back to jail.
Known widely as the ‘The Football Fraudster’ after a Netflix documentary, Abalimba became famous in 2023 when he was exposed after the release of the documentary.
He used stolen cash to fund an expensive lifestyle that helped in the success of his trickery.
Posing as a rich footballer, he was able to con high-profile victims, including Love Island’s Georgia Steel and Thierry Henry’s ex-wife, Claire Merry.
From staying in luxury hotels and going on helicopter rides to exotic international travels, the Congolese was able to entice his victims.
In 2023, Medi Abalimba was arrested and jailed after his scams were exposed.
However, he later violated his parole and fled to the UK, changing his identity and settling in the US.
Law enforcement agencies have now been able to track him down, and he has been extradited to the UK and sent back to jail.
He is now set to stay in jail until October 2026.
