Medhi Benatia is set to take on the full-time role of sporting director at Olympique Marseille after months of speculation.
The former Moroccan international, who had been serving as a ‘Sporting Advisor’ to President Pablo Longoria, will now officially step into the position.
Since joining in late 2023 as an external consultant amidst the club’s crisis, Benatia has been instrumental in Marseille’s rebuilding process. Under his guidance, the club has made significant moves in the transfer market, securing high-profile signings like Mason Greenwood, Elye Wahi, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Adrien Rabiot. He also played a key role in bringing Roberto De Zerbi on board as manager.
Although his future at the club had been uncertain, sources now confirm that “everything is in place” for Benatia’s long-term commitment. The new contract, expected to last around two-and-a-half years, aligns with the expiration of De Zerbi’s deal, marking a new chapter for the Moroccan in his leadership role at the club.
