Olympique de Marseille Join Race to Sign Mbwana Aly Samatta
Tanzanian striker Mbwana Aly Samatta, recently linked with a move to FC Nantes, has reportedly attracted interest from another Ligue 1 club—Olympique de Marseille. According to L’Equipe, Marseille are keen to secure the services of the TP Mazembe forward and hope to see him arrive at the Canebière in the near future.
Samatta, who was voted the best African player based on performances on the continent in 2015, has also been courted by Belgian side Genk. Although a transfer to Belgium had been anticipated, progress has reportedly been slow, opening the door for Marseille to make a move.
The 20-year-old striker has impressed in the CAF Champions League and domestic competitions with his clinical finishing and intelligent movement, making him an attractive prospect for clubs across Europe. Marseille, aiming to strengthen their attacking options, view Samatta as a cost-effective acquisition, with the transfer fee reportedly estimated at around one million euros—well within the club’s budget.
A move to Marseille would represent a significant step in Samatta’s career, providing him with exposure in one of Europe’s top leagues while offering the French club a promising talent capable of contributing immediately. His potential signing also highlights the growing interest in African players performing on the continent, as European clubs increasingly scout emerging talent directly from African leagues.
While negotiations are still ongoing, Marseille’s involvement adds a new dimension to Samatta’s transfer saga, and the coming weeks may determine whether he heads to the south of France or pursues other options abroad.
