Loaned to MHSC since last summer, Mbaye Niang appears to be thriving in the French championship. With 4 goals in 14 games, the Franco-Senegalese striker is already contemplating his future. Despite early promise when he left Caen for Italy, he found himself with limited playing time at AC Milan.
According to Midi Libre, Niang is open to the idea of staying on loan at Montpellier for another season. He feels a sense of belonging to the club, considering it a “family club,” and wants to repay the trust shown to him by the club’s leaders, especially after some off-field incidents in January. During that month, he escaped prison after driving without a license and causing a dramatic accident with his Ferrari.
It’s unclear whether Montpellier shares Niang’s desire to extend his stay. President Loulou Nicollin has made it clear that he no longer wishes to see the player, who is coveted by the Senegalese federation for the Lions of Teranga, in his squad.
