Empoli’s prolific striker, Mbaye Niang, has not ruled out the prospect of donning the Senegal National Team jersey once again, as he shares his aspirations and dedication to making a return. In a recent Instagram post, Niang, who last played for the Lions on November 13, 2019, during the afcon 2021 qualifying match against Congo, expressed his deep desire to rejoin the national squad. Acknowledging a fan’s comment on his potential return, Niang responded openly, revealing his strong connection to the national team.
“I am keen to find my teammates, my brothers in the selection as well as the Senegalese public. I was in selection for a while, and I hope to get back there soon.
I am working hard for my current club but also to be on the list of call-ups to the National Team again. Whatever happens,
I will forever remain the number one supporter of Senegal,” shared the 29-year-old striker, accompanied by a Lion emoji.
Despite his absence from the national team for over four years, Niang’s commitment to Senegal remains unwavering.
Having earned 23 caps and contributed four goals and two assists, he played a crucial role in Senegal’s journey to the AFCON 2019 final and the 2018 World Cup. Niang considers his goal against Poland in the World Cup as the most significant moment in his career.
With an impressive record of 11 goals and 3 assists in the current season, Niang’s stellar performance with Empoli raises questions about a potential comeback to the Senegal National Team.
The Lions, led by coach Aliou Cissé, will undoubtedly weigh their options as they look to strengthen their squad. The prospect of Mbaye Niang’s return adds an exciting dimension to Senegal’s football narrative.
