Kylian Mbappé transforms Bonendale public school in Cameroon
A public school in Douala has been completely renovated after receiving financial support from French football star Kylian Mbappé, giving students and teachers a significantly improved learning environment.
The Bonendale public school, once marked by ageing infrastructure and deteriorating facilities, has undergone a major transformation following the project.
The renovation has refreshed the entire site, with buildings repainted and repaired to provide a cleaner and more welcoming space for education.
The improvements have changed the atmosphere of the school, which had previously struggled with outdated structures.
Classrooms and surrounding facilities have been restored, creating conditions that are more comfortable for both pupils and staff.
One of the most notable additions is the construction of a new multi-sports pitch. The modern facility now allows students to take part in several sporting activities, including handball, basketball and football.
The space is designed to encourage physical activity and provide pupils with access to organised sport within the school grounds.
For many students, the upgraded facilities mark a significant change from the conditions they previously experienced.
The new sports area offers a place not only for competition but also for recreation and teamwork, which teachers say plays an important role in school life.
The project also reflects Mbappé’s continuing connection to Cameroon, where he has previously taken part in community initiatives. The footballer, who plays for Real Madrid CF, visited the country around three years ago.
During that trip, the striker met with local young people and participated in several social activities aimed at supporting communities and encouraging youth development.
The renovation of Bonendale public school follows that earlier visit and forms part of those broader efforts to engage with young people in the country.
With its newly restored buildings and modern sports facilities, the school now offers students a setting that is far more suited to both learning and play.
