Mbappe mocks ‘angry’ Real Madrid Ballon d’Or claims with ‘great-aunt’ reply

Kylian Mbappe has ridiculed a report claiming he was angry with Real Madrid over the club’s lack of public support for his Ballon d’Or campaign.

The Real Madrid and France forward responded after Radio Marca suggested he was unhappy with the Spanish club’s position while facing criticism during the international break.

Mbappe was injured while playing for France against Turkey and subsequently returned to the Spanish capital. Radio Marca’s report linked his demeanour during the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid with alleged frustration at Real Madrid’s management, arguing that his behaviour reflected anger towards club officials.

The report claimed Mbappe had expected Real Madrid to launch a media campaign in support of his bid for the world’s most prestigious individual award.

It also said he was unhappy with France manager Zinedine Zidane for not showing him clear backing, with Ousmane Dembele also among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or.

Mbappe chose to address the claims himself, replying sarcastically to Radio Marca’s post on Instagram.

“Yes, all right… Yes, and I was also angry with the great-aunt!” he wrote, adding laughing emojis.

The response came as Mbappe faced pressure and criticism from some Real Madrid supporters following his injury with France and his return to Madrid.

After arriving back in the Spanish capital, the forward left the club’s training ground and was given a period of rest. Rather than respond to the criticism surrounding his fitness and return, Mbappe commented only on the report which linked his mood to an alleged dispute with Real Madrid’s management.

The report had therefore suggested that his frustration extended beyond his injury and the scrutiny surrounding his performances, portraying his conduct during the Atletico Madrid match as evidence of dissatisfaction with the club’s handling of his Ballon d’Or hopes.

Mbappe’s brief social media response dismissed that interpretation without directly addressing the wider criticism he has received since the international break.
