Real Madrid received a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, with Kylian Mbappe and Ferland Mendy returning to group training on Thursday.
The pair had been sidelined due to injuries but are now pushing to be fit for the decisive clash in Seville.
Mbappe, of Cameroonian and Algerian descent, and Mendy, who has Senegalese heritage, are both key figures in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
Their potential availability comes as welcome news for Los Blancos, who are grappling with significant injury concerns elsewhere in the team.
Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a complete tear of the tendon in his left adductor muscle during Wednesday’s 1-0 LaLiga victory over Getafe.
The French international’s absence is a significant blow to Madrid’s midfield options.
Additionally, defender David Alaba is a major doubt for the final after sustaining a muscle injury in the same match. Although his condition is less severe than Camavinga’s, his participation remains uncertain.
In light of these setbacks, Ancelotti may turn to Fran Garcia to fill the void in defence, particularly if Mendy is not deemed fully match-fit.
The team is scheduled to conduct a final training session at Valdebebas on Friday morning before traveling to Seville for an evening session at La Cartuja Stadium.
Real Madrid, currently trailing Barcelona by four points in the LaLiga standings with five matches remaining, view the Copa del Rey as a crucial opportunity to secure silverware this season.
The return of Mbappe and Mendy could prove pivotal in their quest to overcome their arch-rivals and lift the trophy.
