The Mauritanian national football team, the Mourabitounes, officially commenced their gathering on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, in Nouakchott.

The beginning of this crucial assembly marks the initiation of intensive preparations for the highly anticipated continental tournament.

Under the guidance of Coach Amir Abdou, selected players, including expatriates, have begun arriving at the base camp in Nouakchott.

Among those present are key figures like Babacar Niasse, Oumar Ngom, Souleymane Anne, Bakari Camara, and Omaré Gassama.

With several players expected to join the gathering in the coming days, the team’s first training session is scheduled for December 28 at one of the annex stadiums of Cheikha Boidiya, providing an early opportunity for the Mourabitounes to synchronize their efforts.

Further arrivals are anticipated until December 31, the departure date for the national team’s journey to Tunisia, where additional preparatory activities are on the agenda.

Amir Abdou, the head coach, had earlier unveiled a list of 27 players chosen to represent Mauritania in the upcoming AFCON, set to take place in Ivory Coast from January to February 2024.

As the Mauritanian national team convenes and intensifies its training regimen, the anticipation for their performance in AFCON 2023 continues to build among football enthusiasts, both domestically and internationally.

The strategic preparation period will be instrumental in fostering cohesion among the Mourabitounes as they embark on their quest for success in the prestigious African football tournament.
