Mauritania embraced tradition in a solemn ceremony preceding the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which kicks off in January.
At the FASQ hotel in Nouakchott on Wednesday, December 27, Mr. Ahmed Ould Sid’Ahmed Ould Dje, the Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Relations with Parliament, symbolically handed over the national flag to the national team captain Mohamed Dellah Yali.
This symbolic gesture holds immense significance, signifying the country’s endorsement and the people’s blessing for Amir Abdou and his team as they approach the final preparations for the AFCON.
The Mourabitounes will undergo further training in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, until December 31, followed by an intensive training camp in Tabarka, Tunisia, until January 11, 2024.
A friendly match against the Tunisian national team in Radès is scheduled for January 6, 2024.
Placed in Group D alongside Burkina Faso, Angola, and Algeria, Mauritania is set to kick off its campaign against Burkina Faso’s Stallions on January 16, 2024 at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.
