CF Estrela Amadora have completed the signing of Nigerian centre-forward Mathew Gbomadu from Armenian side Ararat-Armenia, securing the 21-year-old on a contract running from 2026-02-02 to 2029-06-30.

The deal sees Gbomadu leave the Armenian Premier League for Liga Portugal, with Estrela Amadora acquiring a left-footed attacking option valued at €200k at the time of the transfer. The move ends his spell in Armenia and marks the first step of his career in Portuguese football, where he will now compete in the country’s top flight.

Gbomadu joins Estrela Amadora as a recognised centre-forward, his main position, and will be expected to add depth and competition in attack. Standing at 1.81m, he arrives with experience from multiple clubs despite his age, having already played senior football in both Russia and Armenia. No transfer fee has been disclosed in the official records of the move.

Born on 16 Oct 2004, Gbomadu developed his career away from Nigeria early on, building his reputation with FDC Vista Gelendzhik in Russia before moving to Ararat-Armenia in 2023. His market value rose steadily during his time in Armenia, climbing from €100k shortly after his arrival at Ararat-Armenia to €200k, a figure he maintained through successive updates leading up to his switch to Portugal.

During the 2023–24 season, Ararat-Armenia sent him on loan to fellow Armenian club FC Van in January 2024. That spell included a return to his parent club in June 2024 once the loan concluded. His performances in Armenia – for both Ararat-Armenia and Van – underpinned his market value growth, with Transfermarkt valuations reflecting a progression from €100k to €150k and then €200k as he adapted to senior professional football.

Although detailed match-by-match statistics and individual game performances are not listed in the available data, the consistent valuation updates suggest that Gbomadu maintained a level of form that kept him on the radar of clubs outside Armenia. Estrela Amadora have now acted on that potential, bringing him into a league considered a stronger competitive environment than the Armenian top flight.

For Estrela Amadora, the acquisition of a young, left-footed Nigerian striker aligns with a wider trend in Liga Portugal clubs recruiting emerging talent from less-scouted leagues and developing them in a more visible European competition. For Ararat-Armenia, the transfer closes a cycle that began with his arrival from FDC Vista Gelendzhik in 2023 and included a developmental loan at Van.

Gbomadu’s move also underscores the increasingly international pathways available to Nigerian players, with the forward now taking the next step of his career in Portugal’s top tier. If he adapts quickly to the demands of Liga Portugal, this transfer could prove a pivotal moment in raising his profile in European football and opening the door to future moves within the continent’s major leagues.
