Martin Odegaard says Arsenal are ready to challenge for every trophy after Manchester City win

Martin Odegaard says Arsenal have shown they are ready for the new season and are determined to compete for every available trophy after beating Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield.

The Arsenal captain played a central role in a convincing victory, scoring one of his side’s three goals as the Gunners secured a major win against last season’s opponents. Ricardo Calafiori and Kai Havertz were also on the scoresheet for Arsenal.

Speaking to English broadcaster TNT Sport, Odegaard praised his team’s performance and said the result provided an ideal start to the campaign.

“We played great football, put in an excellent performance and it was a great way to start the season,” said Odegaard.

The Norway international also outlined his personal ambition to make an even greater contribution in front of goal. He said he wanted to help Arsenal as much as possible by both scoring and creating goals, while adding that he was aiming to increase his own tally.

“I always want to help the team as much as possible by scoring and creating goals, and I want to score more goals,” he said.

Odegaard believes Arsenal’s display against Manchester City demonstrated that they are prepared for the demands of the season and capable of competing at the highest level.

“We showed our level and proved that we are ready. We are serious and we want to do what we did again,” he added.

The victory gave Arsenal their 18th Community Shield success. Odegaard said the experience of winning silverware had strengthened the club’s desire to claim more honours.

“We want to compete for everything. When you taste how great it is to win trophies, you want to do it again, and we want to win everything,” he said.

The match was played at the Principality Stadium rather than Wembley because the national stadium was unavailable as a result of previously agreed concerts.

Arsenal’s three goals came from Calafiori, Havertz and Odegaard, giving the club a comfortable victory over Manchester City in the traditional season-opening fixture. The result, and the manner of the performance, allowed Odegaard to underline the team’s readiness before the new campaign gets under way.

With Arsenal having added another Community Shield to their honours, their captain made clear that the club’s ambitions extend beyond a successful start. Odegaard said the squad wanted to use the confidence gained from the win as part of a broader challenge for every competition, rather than treating the result as an isolated achievement.
