Marseille weigh loan move for out-of-favour Aston Villa striker Evann Guessand

Olympique de Marseille are exploring a loan deal for Aston Villa forward Evann Guessand as the Ivorian international faces an increasingly uncertain future in the Premier League.

Marseille have identified the 25-year-old as a potential option to strengthen their attacking line, with club officials closely monitoring his situation at Villa Park, according to French outlet Jeunesfooteux. Aston Villa are understood to be open to another loan move as they look to help the player relaunch his stalling career.

Guessand joined Aston Villa last August in a €30m transfer but failed to establish himself under Unai Emery. His debut season in England proved difficult, with the striker making just 13 Premier League appearances and failing to score.

In search of more minutes and confidence, Guessand was sent on loan to Crystal Palace for the second half of the campaign. However, his spell at Selhurst Park was also underwhelming: he managed only one goal in eight matches, not doing enough to convince the London club to trigger their purchase option.

Back at Aston Villa and still outside Emery’s plans, the forward’s prospects in Birmingham appear limited. Acknowledging the need for Guessand to regain rhythm and playing time, Villa are prepared to sanction another loan, opening the door to interested clubs across Europe.

Marseille keen but salary a major hurdle

Marseille view Guessand as a profile that could fit their needs in attack. The English club see a potential chance to add top-flight experience to their squad as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Guessand is under contract with Aston Villa until June 2030, giving the Midlands club strong leverage over his future. His market value is currently estimated at €25m by Transfermarkt, underlining why a permanent transfer appears unlikely this summer and reinforcing the sense that a loan remains the most realistic solution.

For now, Guessand’s next move hinges on negotiations between Villa and his suitors, with both Marseille and Hull City hoping to be the club that offers him the platform to revive a career that has yet to take off in England.
