Pablo Longoria, president of the Marseille Football Club, has come to the defense of the club’s technical advisor, former Moroccan international Mehdi Benatia, following the recent controversy sparked by Benatia’s comments regarding the team’s player Jonathan Clauss.
During a press conference introducing the club’s new coach, Longoria addressed the issue, stating that Benatia is performing his duties effectively as a sports advisor within the club.
He further emphasized, “He is important to us, and we will not accept such unfair matters.”
Responding to the Professional Footballers’ Union’s statement condemning Benatia, Longoria remarked, “We must be serious; statements should not be made in that manner.
Seriousness lies in responding to calls… Seriousness also lies in their ability to listen to all parties to take a stance.”
It’s worth noting that Benatia faced significant backlash after television remarks regarding an alleged injury claim made by the team’s player Jonathan Clauss.
The French League, in an official statement, condemned Benatia and the Marseille officials for their conduct towards Jonathan Clauss, the team’s former defender and captain of the Moroccan national team.
