Olympique de Marseille are unwilling to reduce their €11.5 million valuation of midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, despite Panathinaikos’ strong interest in making his loan move permanent.
The Moroccan international impressed during his stint in the Greek capital, but a permanent deal remains uncertain due to financial constraints on the part of the Athens-based club.
Ounahi, who featured prominently for Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, joined Panathinaikos on loan for the second half of the 2024–25 season and quickly became a key figure under manager Rui Vitória.
His technical ability and attacking flair were central to the team’s domestic and European campaign, with the 25-year-old contributing five goals and seven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his strong performance, Panathinaikos are reportedly unable to activate the €11.5 million purchase option due to budget limitations.
Marseille, under pressure to raise funds before the June 30th financial reporting deadline set by both UEFA and France’s DNCG, are prioritising sales but appear unwilling to negotiate on Ounahi’s fee.
Club president Pablo Longoria has emphasised the need for revenue from player departures, and while a significant transfer for Luis Henrique to Inter Milan is progressing, Ounahi’s future remains unresolved.
According to La Provence, Panathinaikos are exploring alternatives such as a renewed loan agreement or a renegotiated fee. However, Marseille’s current stance leaves little room for flexibility.
The Ligue 1 side is determined to meet its financial goals through full transfers rather than prolonged loan arrangements, placing Ounahi’s return to Athens in serious doubt despite his popularity and the club’s qualification for the second round of Champions League qualifiers.
Negotiations are expected to continue, but for now, Marseille remain firm on their valuation.
