Gouiri and Abdelli expected to remain at Marseille despite changes

Olympique de Marseille are expected to retain Algerian internationals Amine Gouiri and Himad Abdelli despite plans for significant changes within the squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Following a season that has fallen short of expectations, Marseille’s management are preparing for a broad restructuring, with both arrivals and departures anticipated.

However, the two Algerian players are not currently among those expected to leave, unless there is an unforeseen development.

Abdelli, who joined the club last winter on a contract running until June 2030, has endured a challenging start marked by limited playing time.

Despite his struggles to establish himself, the club are not considering a departure and appear willing to give him time to adjust to his new environment.

“Adapting to a club like this, with higher expectations, takes a little time,” coach Habib Beye recently stated about him.

The midfielder is also understood to be keen on staying, having realised a long-held ambition by signing for Marseille.

Both player and club are aligned in allowing a longer period for integration rather than seeking a swift exit.

In contrast, Gouiri holds a more prominent position within the team. The forward is regarded as a central figure in Marseille’s sporting project and remains under contract until 2029.

His performances have made him an important part of the squad, increasing his value to the club.

Although Gouiri has attracted interest in previous transfer windows and could continue to draw attention from other clubs, Marseille are reportedly determined to retain him.

Any potential move would likely depend on an exceptional offer, with the club prepared to resist approaches under normal circumstances.

His status within the national team setup further strengthens his profile. Unlike Abdelli, Gouiri is considered a key component in the plans of Algeria’s head coach, reinforcing his importance at both club and international level.

With Marseille set for a period of transition, the expected continuity of both players suggests they could play a role in the club’s efforts to rebuild ahead of next season.
