Olympique de Marseille is exploring the possibility of bringing back Cameroonian midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, but Napoli appears unwilling to part ways with one of its key players.
With his contract set to expire in June, a crucial clause could determine his future.
Marseille’s transfer ambitions
Zambo Anguissa, who previously played for Marseille between 2015 and 2018, has since built an impressive career across Europe, featuring for Fulham, Villarreal, and now Napoli.
At 29, his wealth of experience makes him an attractive prospect for the French club, which is looking to bolster its midfield ahead of next season.
With a potential Champions League qualification on the horizon, Marseille is actively assessing reinforcements in midfield.
While names such as Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Ismaël Bennacer, and Adrien Rabiot have been linked, Zambo Anguissa remains a highly desirable option.
Napoli’s stance and the contract clause
Despite Marseille’s interest, Napoli is not prepared to let Anguissa leave without a fight.

The club’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has confirmed that the midfielder’s contract includes an option for a two-year extension.
“Frank has an option to extend his contract for two years. We’ll discuss it at the end of the season,” Manna stated.Under Antonio Conte, Anguissa has remained a crucial figure in Napoli’s midfield, bringing consistency and stability to the team.
Given his importance, the Italian club may decide to trigger the contract extension, which would make any potential departure significantly more complicated for Marseille.
A waiting game for Marseille
While Napoli holds the upper hand, Marseille still has reason to be hopeful.
No official decision has been made regarding the contract extension, and the summer transfer window is still months away.
Negotiations remain open, and until Anguissa’s future is confirmed, the possibility of a return to the Stade Vélodrome cannot be entirely ruled out.
For now, Marseille will have to wait and see whether an opportunity arises or if their former midfielder remains in Naples for the foreseeable future.
