Olympique Marseille are exploring the possibility of re-signing Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 36-year-old former Chelsea and Barcelona star is expected to be released from the final year of his lucrative contract at Al-Qadsiah, with a host of clubs expressing interest in the attacker.
Despite scoring 17 goals in his debut campaign and forming a productive partnership with Colombian forward Julián Quiñones, Aubameyang is no longer in the club’s plans as they seek a younger profile at centre-forward.
Aubameyang left Marseille last summer to join Al-Qadsiah following an impressive performance in France, where he scored 30 goals and registered 11 assists in 51 games across competitions.
According to reports, Marseille are exploring the possibility of bringing Aubameyang back to the club this summer, with the approval of head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Marseille, alongside clubs in Spain and Turkey, have made initial contact with the former Arsenal and Barcelona man to gauge both his mindset and contractual situation.
De Zerbi has given the approval for the move for Aubameyang signing. The Italian coach is keen to add experienced attacking depth to his squad, with Amine Gouiri currently the primary option up front.
However, Marseille will face stiff competition to secure his signature, having attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League, Major League Soccer, and the Turkish Super League.
Aubameyang has had spells for top clubs in Europe including Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona.
