Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi is advocating for a contract extension for Central Africa Republic star Geoffrey Kondogbia following an impressive performance for the club this season.
Kondogbia, who switched allegiance from Franec to represent his native country has been a standout performer despite playing out of position.
The former Atletico Madrid and Valencia midfielder has played most of this season as central defender in a back three following various suspensions and lately an injury to captain Leonardo Balerdi.
Despite having a contract that runs until June 2027, De Zerbi is advocating for a new contract for the enterprising midfielder.
“Kondogbia has made an effort despite hardly ever playing in his position. It would be great if the club could extend his contract,” said De Zerbi following Marseille’s 5-1 win over Montpellier on Saturday evening.
Kondogbia joined the club in the summer of 2023, and has often been favoured by coaches for his calm demeanour off the pitch and a certain amount flexibility on it – despite not necessarily being one of the stars of the show. A defensive midfielder by trade, Kondogbia has made 23 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.
