Romao Set to Boost Togo for CAN Qualifier After Injury Scare
Togo’s national team has received a timely boost ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifier, as midfielder Alaixys Romao looks set to feature despite a recent injury scare.
The Olympique de Marseille player suffered an adductor injury during a Ligue 1 clash against Reims last week, casting serious doubt over his availability for the Hawks’ upcoming third-round qualifier. However, Romao returned to action impressively on Sunday, playing the full 90 minutes in OM’s 2-1 win over Saint-Étienne in the eighth round of Ligue 1.
His performance not only reassured club supporters but also brought relief to the Togolese national team and its fans. Romao is one of the 24 players selected by head coach Tchakala Tchanilé for Togo’s must-win fixture against Uganda.
With his return to full fitness and solid club form, Romao is expected to play a key role in Togo’s midfield as they push to qualify for the 2015 tournament in Equatorial Guinea. Barring any late setbacks, his presence will be a significant asset for the Hawks in what promises to be a challenging encounter.
